The guide with bearings is located directly under the tensioner sprocket. The slide guide ensures smooth operation of the tensioner, whose tension force is controlled by springs. The use of WJRM bearings allows to maintain controlled tension of the drive belt with the possibility of reacting to possible overloads without the risk of damaging mechanical elements.

The guide completely replaced components of the linear guide and main support structure, connecting the mounts to the stand with the pivot hinge. The Drylin W provided the freedom to work while setting a comfortable distance between the tool and the operator, without having to reposition the mounts. WJRM bearings allowed the dedicated hinge to be located directly on the linear guide, reducing the space occupied by the tool, providing the functionality required.

Wir haben einen funkgesteuerten akkubetriebenen Fällkeil entwickelt, um Bäume aus sicherer Entfernung fällen zu können. Gerade durch die letzten trockenen Jahre wurde es für den Forstwirt immer gefährlicher Bäume mit Hammer und Keil Bäume zu fällen. Die große Gefahr besteht durch abgestorbene Äste die, bei der kleinsten Erschütterung durch Hammer und Keil, abbrechen und herunter fallen können. Dies zeigt leider auch die hohe Anzahl an tödlichen Unfällen in der Forstwirtschaft. Unser ferngesteuerter Fällkeil löst dieses Problem: Nach dem Anlegen des Fallkerbs und des Sägeschnittes wird der ferngesteuerte Fällkeil in den Sägeschnitt gesetzt und der Forstwirt kann sich in die sichere Rückweiche (mind.10m Abstand vom Baum) begeben. Mittels Funksender kann er dann die Fällung aus sicherer Entferung starten.

Eine große Herausforderung war die Elektronikentwicklung und die Zusammenarbeit von Funk + akkubetriebenen Motor. Die andere Herausforderung war die Mechanik: Wir benötigten eine Art Drehmomentstütze um das Drehmoment des Motors abstützen zu können und gleichzeitig eine Linaerbewegung ausführen kann.

We have developed an instrument for static and dynamic light scattering under flow in planar geometry. Accessible scattering angles are between 20 and 100 degrees. The incident beam is perpendicular to the plane of the flow and the scattered beam is collected by an optical fiber placed on a goniometric arm whose center of rotation is inside the sample and coincides with the center of a hemispherical lens, which avoids refraction of the beam at the glass air interface at the shear cell outlet. In addition, the shear cell as a whole can be translated in two directions in the plane, while keeping fixed the diffusing volume, in which coincide both the center of the lens, the center of rotation of the goniometric arm and the focusing point of the incident beam. This apparatus is used to study the static and dynamic structure factors of colloidal suspensions concentrated in the glassy phase, in order to perform spatially averaged measurements when the samples are not ergodic. Mechanically, the hemispherical lens is held very precisely in position above the shear cell, by a mechanism adjustable in pitch, roll, yaw and to a certain extent xyz, supported by a set of connecting rods and IGUBAL WGRM (steel pivot) angular joint in a configuration close to the Polonceau trusses. The shear cell is composed of two glass disks (Flint 5, n=1.6) of size in a ratio ½ . The small disc is driven in rotation (continuous or alternating) by a stepper motor and a transmission with a reduction ratio of 64, via two series of pulleys and toothed belt.

The glass cell assembly opens along the z-axis in order to introduce the liquid sample. The glass cell assembly can also move along the Z-axis to position itself at a precise distance from the hemispherical lens. Finally, the whole shearing device is installed on a cross-movement table made up of 4 linear modules with toothed belt ZLW1040, allowing to move the cell under the fixed lens. The illumination of the sample is carried out by a helium-red neon laser with a wavelength of 633nm, the beam is brought to the zenith of the hemispherical lens via a set of lenses and mirrors mounted on a rigid aluminium profile gantry. The incident light from the sample is collected thanks to an optical fiber, mounted on a goniometric arm whose axis of rotation is collinear to the focal point of the hemispherical lens (central point of the sample as well). The length of the arm is such that the collection fiber is in the plane containing the focal point of the lens and the laser beam. The goniometer arm consists of an assembly of aluminum parts and a symmetrical ROBOLINK D 30 robot joint, driven by a stepper motor. The instrument is used daily by the BioSoft research team within the Institute of Physics and Chemistry of Materials of Strasbourg (UMR7504 of the CNRS), at first it was designed and built within the framework of a PhD thesis, then it will be used as a means of characterization, accessible to other French or foreign researchers.

This device is used under experimental conditions in a materials research laboratory. In the context of a PhD thesis in physics at the University of Strasbourg under the supervision of a research director. The PhD student implements the device after adjustments and calibration, in order to determine the structure factor of different materials, in order to determine their optimal composition. This novel experimental device is a tailor-made design (special machine) dedicated to obtaining the structure factor of materials via static and dynamic light scattering under shear. Indeed, the only commercial machines are either static or dynamic light scattering devices, and in no case under shear. Hence the experimental development. The challenges were the following:
– To position in space a hemispherical lens (with precise adjustments in x, y and z)
– To build a cell allowing to shear by rotation a liquid sample at very low speed.
– Hold this cell under the hemispherical lens at a precise distance according to z
– Move the shear cell under the lens in the x and y direction.
– Collecting the incident light via an optical fiber on a goniometric arm precisely positioned in the plane formed by the zenithal laser illumination, the focal point of the lens and the position of the optical fiber.

Instead of bearings, I used igubal angular joints, allowing to keep the hemispherical lens adjustment system in a fixed position in space, so that the cutting plane of the lens is parallel to the glass cell. For the drive of the goniometric arm, we have chosen the Robolink D30 joint, because we needed a wheel and screw mechanism, particularly compact, relatively precise and with good position repeatability, in addition this equipment is also very economical. Regarding the cross travel, we chose the ZLW1040 linear modules, because we wanted to be able to reach very different speeds and a travel without backlash.
Welche alternativen Lösungen für die Lagerstellen kamen in Betracht?
Instead of the igubal joints, we could have made a much heavier structure, based on beams and plates, to support the hemispherical lens holding device, which would probably have angularly limited the movements of the goniometric arm. Concerning the latter, the competing commercial mechanisms were either more voluminous or more expensive, without necessarily having a better precision!

Igubal: construction of a lens holding system, via a triangulation truss built with WGRM IGUBAL angular joints. Light structure and allowing an adjustment of the plate in pitch, roll and yaw.

ZLW1040: construction of a linear displacement cross table, in order to position the shear cell assembly under the hemispherical lens, precisely, with good repeatability. Extended accessible speed range.

Robolink D30 : construction of a goniometric arm (angular displacement between -20 and +100°) to measure the incident light from the sample, via the hemispherical lens, regular angular displacement, precision and repeatability, compactness and price.

Our application is a simulated aircraft throttle for a 737 NG and 737MAX simulated aircraft. The high helix lead screws we selected are used to replicate the auto-throttle system in the real aircraft. This system allows the autopilot to move the throttle levers automatically to control airspeed while also allowing manual control when the auto-throttle is disabled as well as manual override when the auto-throttle is enabled but manual control is required.
Wie stellen sich die Einsatz-/Umgebungsbedingungen beim Endanwender dar? Welche Herausforderungen mussten Sie dazu lösen?
The environmental conditions are typical indoor conditions worldwide. This can mean very hot and humid locations as well as very cold and dry areas and everything in between. The biggest challenges in replicating the auto-throttle system was reducing the size while keeping the full functionality. The real aircraft system is connected to cables that run all throughout the aircraft. We had to fit the entire system into the portion of the throttle that sits above the floor. The next biggest challenge was designing a system that would allow both auto-throttle and manual throttle control as well as manually overriding the auto-throttle system.

The lead nuts and screws had to be robust enough for long term usage, in all climates worldwide, and had to be capable of being back-driven to allow the pilots to override the auto-throttle system and to manually control the throttle.

We considered options like belt drives, standard bronze lead nuts, and direct servo drive. All these options were either too large, too expensive, or could not be back-driven adequately.

We used the Igus high helix lead screws and nuts (50mm lead) supported by 3/8” Igus high precision linear bearings.
An welchen Stellen? Wie konnten die Produkte Ihre Probleme lösen?
The lead screws and bearings were used to control each of the two throttle levers (one lever for each engine). The system worked so well that we also implemented a similar system to drive the speedbrake lever (controls the simulated air brakes) which is mounted in the same throttle module.
The products were the perfect mix of low cost, high reliability, and very easy to back-drive. The low cost allowed us to meet our pricing targets for the simulated throttles. The high reliability means we will not have to worry about units wearing or failing in the field. The high helix means that these screws are very easy to back drive which gives us the perfect feel and force at the lever handles.
